What I learned about sleep – 2

  • Everyone needs a minimum of 7 hours of sleep everyday. Nobody is special.
  • Those who don’t sleep for at least 7 hours each day are never truly awake.
  • Sleep debt gets accumulated, but sleep debt is corrosive too.
  • REM sleep (dreamy sleep for laymen) and N-REM sleep are important and necessary for different fumctions.
  • Missing out on REM sleep by getting repeatedly woken up during REM cycles is detrimental for memory formation and emotional maturity.
  • Missing out on deep sleep is detrimental for repair and maintenance of bodily tissues and also for draining out of the gunk from the brain.
  • Staying up at night to learn something is pointless.
  • Chronic inadequate sleep may lead to dysfunctional memory.
  • People who have Alzeimer’s, Depression, Parkinson’s will also tend to have sleep problems during the lifetime leading to these problems.
  • For many of the following the root cause may be inadequate sleep
    • Vitamin B12 deficiency
    • Irritable bowel
    • Memory Recall Issues
    • Pre-diabetes or Type-2 diabetes
    • Chronic Fatigue
    • Constant irritability or watery eyes
    • Driving urge to snack but not being actually hungry
    • Inability to focus or do deep work
    • Inability to comprehend new material
    • Noticeable lag in instinctive responses
    • Depression
  • Sleep is a superpower.
  • The best and the fastest learners almost always sleep very well
  • Babies have the fastest physical growth and the most rapid burst of learning of skills, language, communication. Babies also sleep the most!
  • Sleep is not a necessary evil. Sleep is what makes us human.
